The acclaimed Frog & Peach Theatre Company is New York’s only First Folio based Shakespeare ensemble. Founded by members of the Actors Studio, and beloved by Shakespeare fans from all over the tri-state area, we were delighted to return to the Manhattan’s Upper West Side to take part in the New-York Historical Society’s First Folio Live event Saturday June 11!
For this special event, we selected one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest scenes from Romeo & Juliet: Act III, Scene I, featuring Collin Blackard as Benvolio, Lenny Ciotti as Mercutio, Marcus Watson as Tybalt, Jonathan Reed Wexler as Romeo, and Ellie D’Eustachio as the troupe’s lovely but terrifying Stage Manager. The dramatic stairway and other architectural details made The Robert H & Clarice Smith Gallery perfect for this cinematic scene.
After the show, audiences took part in a fun Show & Tell led by Teaching Artist & Frog & Peach Combat Choreographer Marcus Watson. Participants got a hands-on feel for weapons like the ones Shakespeare’s actors used at The Globe.
We had a wonderful time turning visitors young & old on to the excitement of Shakespeare!
